April is packed full of events so be sure to check the calendar on the bulletin board.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

April 2^nd, 9^th & 16^th

If you have not done so already, please sign up for conferences. This is the last "formal" time set aside to discuss your child's (ren) progress. The sign-up sheets are located outside each classroom door. If the schedule times do not meet your availability, talk to the teacher and I'm sure another time can be arranged. Please take time to fill out the survey before you leave the building. There will be a box in the foyer for the completed forms.

Due to conferences the students will be dismissed at noon on Thurs., 4/2 and Thurs., 4/9. There will be child-care from noon until 5:30. Conferences on April 16 will be held in the morning with school beginning at 11:00. There will be before school care as usual.

Pre-Registration/Registration

It's that time of year when we need to begin planning for the 2009-2010 school year. During Parent/Teacher conferences you will be asked if your child(ren) will be returning to CNS next year. Although this is not a formal registration, next year's preliminary budget figures and classroom configurations will be based on your response. Pre-registration for the 2009-2010 school year will be open to the community beginning May 4^th. Toward the end of this month, all current families will receive a formal registration form. Please be sure to return this form to the office A.S.A.P. to guarantee a spot for next school year.

Fund-raisers

Plant Sale (April 6 - May 9), Mystery Dinner (May 2), & CNS Clothing

Busy, busy month. If you are able to help with either of these fund-raisers, there is a volunteer sign-up sheet located on the bulletin board in the main entry. The plant sale is on Saturday, May 9^th (day before Mother's Day) from 8:00am - 1:00pm. There is a need for people to help unload the truck beginning at 8:00am.

This year we are selling pre-sale coupons, beginning Mon. April 6^th. Once you've purchased the coupon, you can go directly to McNitt's and make your purchase (items listed on the coupon). The cost of the coupon is $15.00 and can be purchased in the office. The coupon can be redeemed anytime between April 6^th and May 9^th. What a great time to sell plants and help CNS reach its fund-raising goal.

The Murder Mystery Dinner is May 2^nd beginning with refreshments at 6:00pm. The performance is at 6:30pm and dinner at 7:30pm. This years event is at the Unitarian Fellowship located at 105 N. Parrish in Carbondale. Tickets will soon be on sale in the office for $35.00/person.

CNS Clothing

Hopefully, we will have an order form out ASAP.

These three events are the school's last major fund-raisers of the year. As a member of the Corporation, your involvement is encouraged.

Dipping with Dad

The Hammerhead Sharks with be hosting this event on Friday, April 17^th from 2-3pm. Watch for further details.

Science/History Fair

& Open House

This years Science/History Fair/Open House will be on Mon., May 4^th from 6:30-8:00 pm. Please feel free to invite any interested families.

Yearbook

Have you ordered your 2008-09 yearbook? The cost is $15.00 and can be paid for in the

office.

Graduation/Recognition

The last day of school this year will be on May 22 dismissal at noon. The graduation/ recognition ceremony will be that evening at 6:30pm. More details to follow.

Health & Dental Forms

This a reminder that all students entering PreK, Kind., fifth and ninth grades for the 2009-2010 school year will need a physical exam before October 1, 2009. A dental exam is now required for all kindergarten, second and sixth grade students. You might want to make these appointments before the rush.

Transportation Reimbursement

The State of Illinois reimburses parents who transport their child(ren) to school. Since CNS has no bus service, you are eligible. In order to properly complete this form, you need to calculate your mileage one way between home and school, bring that information with you, and stop by the office. You have until the last day of school, but I suggest that you do this A.S.A.P. so it doesn't get forgotten. It's nice to receive a check form the state for a change!
