April is packed full of events so be sure to check the calendar on the bulletin board.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

April 10^th & 11^th

If you have not done so already, please sign up for conferences. This is the last "formal" time set aside to discuss your child's (ren) progress. The sign-up sheets are located outside each classroom door. If the schedule times do not meet your availability, talk to the teacher and I'm sure another time can be arranged.

Due to conferences the students will be dismissed at noon on Thurs., 4/10. There will be child-care from noon until 5:30. There is no school on Fri., 4/11 due to conferences taking place all day.

Pre-Registration/Registration

It's that time of year when we need to begin planning for the 2008-2009 school year. During Parent/Teacher conferences you will be asked if your child(ren) will be returning to CNS next year. Although this is not a formal registration, next year's preliminary budget figures and classroom configurations will be based on your response. Pre-registration for the 2008-2009 school year will be open to the community beginning May 5^th. Toward the end of this month, all current families will receive a formal registration form. Please be sure to return this form to the office A.S.A.P. to guarantee a spot for next school year.

Fund-raisers

Plant Sale ( April 12^th ) & Mystery Dinner

April 26^th

Busy, busy month. If you are able to help with either of these fund-raisers, there is a volunteer sign-up sheet located on the bulletin board in the main entry. The plant sale is on April 12, from 8:00am - 1:00pm. There is a need for people to help unload the truck beginning at 8:00am. There is quite a variety of plants provided by McNitt Nursery. If you have sold your coupons, please turn in your money to the office. Spread the word to all your co-workers, friends and family!!!

The Murder Mystery Dinner is April 26^th beginning with refreshments at 6:00pm. The performance is at 6:30pm and dinner at 7:30pm. This years event is at the Unitarian Fellowship located at 105 N. Parrish in Carbondale. Tickets are on sale in the office for $35.00/person.

These two events are the school's last major fund-raisers of the year. As a member of the Corporation, your involvement is encouraged.

Staff Appreciation Week

Kathleen Ensor is planning special activities for April 14^th - April 18^th. If you'd like to help show your appreciation for the staff, please contact Kathleen.

Work Day

The next scheduled work day is Saturday, April 19^th. Please mark your calendars!!

Board Meeting

Tuesday, April 29^th @ 6:30 p.m. ALL ARE WELCOME!!

Corporation Meeting/Picnic

This event usually occurs in May. However, it seems like numerous events happen in May. The board is trying to plan ahead before everyone gets too busy, so the date for our last corporation meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 30^th at Evergreen Park The pot-luck dinner will begin around 5:00pm followed by a short Corporation meeting. Watch for more details toward the end of April.

Institute Day

According to our calendar, there is a scheduled institute day on Fri. April 25^th. This usually is a day for the staff to work with no students. However, due to the recent days off because of weather, the board approved a calendar change. This will now be a school day with noon dismissal and after school care until 5:30pm.

Graduation/Recognition

The last day of school for this year will be noon on May 28^th.. The graduation/ recognition ceremony will be the same evening at 6:30pm. More details to follow.

Science/History Fair

& Open House

This years Science/History Fair/Open House will be on Monday, May 5^th from 6:30-8:00 pm. Please feel free to invite any interested families.

Yearbook

Is there anyone interested in working on our 2007-08 yearbook? There are lots of pictures, but no one to get them organized and put on a CD for the publisher. If you have questions, please feel free to ask Teresa. If no one can help, then there will not be a yearbook this year.

Health & Dental Forms

This a reminder that all students entering PreK, Kind., fifth and ninth grades for the 2008-2009 school year will need a physical exam before October 1, 2008. A dental exam is now required for all kindergarten, second and sixth students. You might want to make these appointments before the rush.

Transportation Reimbursement

The State of Illinois reimburses parents who transport their child(ren) to school. Since CNS has no bus service, all of us are eligible. In order to properly complete this form, you need to calculate your mileage one way between home and school, bring that information with you, and stop by the office. You have until the last day of school, but I suggest that you do this A.S.A.P. so it doesn't get forgotten. It's nice to receive a check form the state for a change!
