CNS SEPTEMBER 2008 NEWSLETTER

The 2008-2009 school year is off and running!!! On behalf of the entire staff we want to welcome all of our new families and extend a hearty "Welcome Back" to those of you who are returning.

This is the first monthly issue of our school newsletter! Along with notes from teachers, it is one way that we communicate with all of you on a regular basis. If you have anything that you would like included in the newsletter, please bring it to the office at least one week before the end of the month. If for some reason you do not receive a newsletter, we always have extras in the office and it is posted on our website. (www.carbondalenewschool.com)

For Your Information

Checking In and Out

Please remember to check in with the before school supervisor upon your arrival and the afternoon staff when you pick up your child(ren) at the end of the day. If you come before 3:00 P.M. or after 8:45 A.M., please sign in/out your child in the office. If someone other than a parent is going to be picking up your child(ren), please put in writing the date and name of that person so we can check credentials. If there is no written notice (even if their name is on the emergency form we will not release your child(ren) until you have been contacted). Checking in/checking out is very important, so please take the time to make personal contact with our staff. There is a $5.00/15min/child late fee if pick up is later than 5:30pm.

Reminder

If your child(ren) will be absent, please call the school by 10:00 A.M. so we don't worry.

Communication

Please be sure to check your family mailbox (located in the foyer) on a daily basis. This is where we will put newsletters, notes, monthly invoices/statements, etc. This year all school and teacher newsletters will be printed on blue color paper; so be sure to read these!!!

Taking Care of Business

Monique and I are still going through the numerous paperwork that we need on each child/family. If you have not yet returned your enrollment information, and/or signed your contract, please stop by the office ASAP. A notice was put in mailboxes to remind you of the information/forms that are missing. If you did not receive a notice then CONGRATULATIONS, your paperwork is complete!!!!!!

Tuition

Tuition is due on the first school day of each month. There is a basket on Monique’s desk should no one be in the office when you bring in your payment. Invoices indicating amount due will be placed in mailboxes just prior to the first of each month.

Immunizations

In order to comply with the state immunization requirements, all students entering 5th grade should have three Hepatitis B shots before October 1, 2004.

(Continued)

A health exam should occur for students in PreK, Kindergarten and 5th grade. If your child is in PreK or Kindergarten, please provide the office with a copy of their immunization record. They also need proof of whether or not they have had the chicken pox or the vaccine. If your child is in need of a physical or immunizations, please schedule a doctor’s appointment as soon as possible and let Monique know the scheduled date. If your child has transferred from another school, please make sure that all records have been forwarded to CNS. All students that do not comply with these state regulations by Sept. 21st will be asked to leave school until they have complied.

Parking Lot

When entering the parking lot, be sure to pull your car all the way into an open spot. In order to help with traffic flow, please do not leave your car parked in the middle of driveway. For safety reasons, enter from the west and exit at the east end. Students are not allowed in the parking lot unless they are with an adult.

Pizza Wednesday

We offer pizza for sale every Wednesday for $1.50 a slice. If your child is having pizza, they should still bring a morning &/or after school snack. If they are not having pizza, then have them bring their lunch as usual. For your convenience we have pizza punch cards. A ticket for 10 pizza slices is $15.00 and $7.50 for 5 slices. (The office will hold onto the card from week to week). Once the card is finished, a note will be put in your mailbox. If you have any questions, please contact the office.

Monday Morning

Every Monday morning at 8:45, all the students meet together in the playroom. This assembly is for recognizing individual students who have shown kindness to others. It is also used for general announcements and/or school wide discussion. Please feel free to join us. The assemblies last approximately 15 minutes. Remember school begins promptly at 8:30 (4-8) and 8:45 (PreK-3).

Treats

Before sending in any food for parties (holiday, birthdays, etc.), please check with your child(ren)’s teacher. This procedure will help us to limit the amount of “treats” that are given at school, and for students that have dietary concerns.

Room Parents

Each classroom needs a parent to assist their child’s teacher with various tasks (parties, field trips etc.) If you are available, please contact the teacher and volunteer to help!!

PE Classes

All students have PE on Thursday. Please make sure they wear appropriate shoes. If you would like to keep an extra pair of gym shoes at school, just label with child’s name, and leave them in their individual classrooms.

Early Dismissal

Our first early dismissal day is Friday, Sept. 5th. All classes dismiss at 2:00 P.M.. If your child(ren) need to stay for the after school program, charges will occur between 3:30 - 5:30.

                        Work Day

The first scheduled work day is Sat. Sept. 27th. The day usually begins at 8:30am. Typically there is a list of tasks that need to be done around the school.
